CHILDREN’S SAVINGS ACCOUNTS: A UNIQUELY AMERICAN WAY TO FINANCE HIGHER EDUCATION

Professor Willam Elliott explains how a financial aid system based in student debt aggravates present inequities and prevents social mobility. As an alternative, Professor Willie and Bob Hildreth present an “uniquely American” way to finance education, namely a universal children’s savings account (CSA) program. They explain how CSAs could “make college affordable, strengthen the return on degree long-term, tackle some of the issues around wealth equality, and leverage education’s capacity to be the great equalizer”.
